Veggie Challenge Teams Bot – Administrator Guide

This guide provides instructions for Microsoft Teams administrators on how to install and configure the Veggie Challenge bot for their organization.

App Overview

The Veggie Challenge bot allows users within a team to participate in the ProVeg Veggie Challenge. Once a user starts a challenge in a channel, the bot will post periodic updates and progress reports to that channel, encouraging participation and engagement.

Installation

  1. From the Microsoft Teams App store, find and select the Veggie Challenge app.
  1. Click “Add to a team”.
  1. Select the team and channel where you want the bot to post messages.
  1. Click “Set up a bot”.

Permissions Explained

During installation, you will be asked to grant consent for one permission:

  • Allow this app to send messages to team channels: The bot requires this permission for its core function, which is to post the initial challenge announcement and send periodic updates (like participant counts and CO2 savings graphs) to the channel.
The bot can only post in channels of teams where it has been explicitly installed. It cannot read channel messages or access any other team data.

How to Use the Bot

Once installed, any member of the team can start a challenge:

  1. In the channel where the bot was added, start a “New post”.
  1. Click the Apps icon (looks like three squares) below the compose box.
  1. Select the Veggie Challenge app.
  1. A pop-up will appear. Enter the unique group code provided by your organization’s Veggie Challenge coordinator and click “Submit”.

Support

If you encounter any issues with the installation or operation of the bot, please contact our support team by emailing veggiechallenge.teams@proveg.org.

This content is focused on the administrator’s tasks and concerns: what the app does, what it needs to function, and how their users can get started. A link to a page with this information would be perfect for the “Enable app prerequisites documentation link” field.
